My Girl | Traveler's Notebook | The E-sie Sketch Challenge!

Hey friends - I'm so excited to share a new video collaboration I've started with one of my favourite crafty people out there Essie!

We've called it The E-sie Challenge. Because if you take the 'L' out of Elsie and an 'S' from Essie you're left with 'E-sie', like 'easy'? Get it?! *slow clap for that hilarious name*

This is a monthly challenge that isn't going to be anything difficult, and we want it to inspire you as well as Essie and I to get creating! The only rule is that you can create anything you want based on the sketch... traveler's notebooks, 12x12s, cards, art journals... whatever you fancy!

And make sure to tag us on Insta (@heyelsie_@essie.ruth) if you have a go at using this month's sketch!

Here is this month's sketch, designed by Essie:

And here is my TN page. I used a Just Nick Cut File with Maggie Holmes 'Chasing Dreams' papers and embellishments.

I also work in a Felicity Jane Traveler's Notebook*, they're the best TN inserts out there!

Here is my video and make sure you check out Essie's gorgeous creation here

Pinkfresh Studio | Boys Fort Collection Blog Hop

Hey friends, I'm back with another Pinkfresh Studio layout, and I'm using the brand new Boys Fort collection!

I was inspired by a couple of the ephemera die-cut pieces in the collection. There are three adorable pencils and so I decided to go with a stationary theme for this page.

I found this sketch on the silhouette design store, and thought it would make an adorable design element. However, because I knew I would want to have a patterned paper cover and this file was a sketch design, I had to do a bit of work in the Silhouette studio to make the cover fit between the spiral wires.

It was a bit fiddly, but I'm so glad I put in that time because I was able to keep the detail from the sketch file and also include patterned paper. And yes, I used a green paper! I know, who am I?! But I love how it made the notebook look kind of traditional.

Again, inspired by my stationary theme, I wanted to create play with some patterned papers and create some faux notebook style edges.

On the orange paper layer I wanted to make it look like a tabbed file folder. To do this I lifted an idea from the fabulous Zinia from Abstract Inspiration and I used my envelope punch board to punch notches into the paper and trimmed off the excess pieces.

With the next piece I wanted to create a notebook edge. You could easily do this with a notebook punch, but I don't own one. However it's so easy to achieve the same look with a single hole punch and some scissors...

All you have to do is punch holes evenly apart near the edge of the paper and then snip a notch between in the middle of each hole. I love how quick and simple this is to do and how it adds more texture to the page.

Another one of my favourite pieces? The fabric banners! They're so adorable and have really versatile sentiments on them. I combined two of them so they read as 'the best friend'.

Of course I couldn't resist doing some stitching. To go along with my stationary theme I drew and cut out some paper airplanes and stitched around them; I love how fun and playful they look.
Hop along to everyone's blog and leave a comment for your chance to win the entire Boy's Fort Collection - wahoo! Comments close on Friday Sept 8th 2017, 11:69pm CST.

A Little Bit of Magic Layout | AND a Freebie!

This month's kit from Citrus Twist is one of my absolute favourites, link to the kits here! It's packed full of the new Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel collection along with some of my favourite papers from the Pink Paislee Summer Lights collection. This is the layout I've created.

I'm still loving my Silhouette and was playing around in the software and created this open star cut file. I had so much fun backing the cut file with the different papers from the August kits, especially because this is such a simple technique to make all of these bold and contrasting patterns work together.

The fairy was cut with this cut file from the Silhouette Store. As the cut file doesn't include any of the fairy's facial features, I drew them on with a black pen.

And now, onto the good stuff! Since I made this cut file, I thought I would offer it to you guys as a freebie - woot woot! This is the first time I've done anything like this, so if there's any problems with the files, please let me know and I'll try and fix 'em! :)

Just as a little disclaimer, please only use this file for personal use.

And finally, if you make anything with the cut file, I would love to see your creations! Make sure you tag me on Instagram (@heyelsie_), so I can admire you work!
